St Francis Bay is a picturesque holiday village in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa, just a short drive from the major town of Port Elizabeth.
With quaint white painted houses with black roofs situated on the banks of the canals and around the golf course, or in a low Mediterranean style, St Francis is a perfect holiday destination.
Whale watching is a major attraction, and these majestic creatures can be spotted of the coast from May to late October, and dolphins can be seen swimming back and forth across the bay most of the year. Cape Clawless otters can also be seen right up on the beaches, playing in the waves and rock pools around the Port. Bird life is also abundant, with eagles flying inland for the ornithologists amongst you.
The town is built around its commercial and recreational harbour, built to host the squid fishing industry vessels, as well as a small harbour, holding boats, pleasure craft, and oceangoing yachts. There is also a small airport a short drive out for those looking to fly in.
