St Francis Tourism announced the new members of the tourism steering committee this week, taking up the reigns with a business plan to take us into the Christmas holiday season. The new committee consists of Steve Buck, Louis Mclellan, Sarah Swanepoel, Alec Chamberlain and Allan Frank, who is assuming the role of Head Tourism Officer. Gracey Reese, oversaw a successful and smooth handover.
First on the new teams agenda is the renewal of St Francis Tourism membership. The committee wants to put availability of information of the scheme at the top of the list, using key individuals in regular contact with the public to help visitors use the programme to full effect.
“Living in such a well known tourism town makes us all Tourism Ambassadors by proxy, from the managers of the local grocery shop to the attendants at the petrol station. Any resident who is interested in representing St Francis will be invited to attend a workshop, given an in depth tour of all the town has to offer, and will receive a Tourism Officer badge so visitors can easily identify them. Local businesses are also being encouraged to nominate staff members to help with this task” said Allen Frank
On top of this initiative, this information, as well as literature on “what to do and where to do it” in St Francis will be made readily available in properties used by holiday makers, as well as being printable from the St Francis Tourism website.
“It is important that St Francis Tourism should remain financed by the Kouga Municipality through monthly grants,” Frank said. “This funding stalled earlier in the year, but with all St Francis has to offer, plus the agenda of the new board, negotiations looks promising and we hope to have everything back on track soon, with the aim of having it all fully functioning and thriving by the next tourist season
The town is planning a “Welcome back, Tourism” function on Wednesday 24 October at the local community centre to let the community more widely hear about and have their say on the new plan.
